The ministry of Jasper Walls was formed out of the friendship of Mark Smith and Niles White. They met in their early twenties at work, and soon became close friends. While practicing a new song, Mark mentioned that they needed a high tenor, and Niles instantly thought of his friend Buddy Casto. At that point, the group became a trio, although they did not use the name Jasper Walls until Dustin joined the group as a fourth voice.
The group is not a quartet in the Southern Gospel meaning of the term, however the group’s Southern roots are exposed from time to time. When asked about the group’s influences, the group noted, “Our goal is to blend our voices and our influences into a unique sound”. Mark has studied classical piano, Buddy plays the Sax and likes Jazz, and all four of them grew up in church choir which has definitely influenced their sound.
When asked about the name, “Jasper Walls”, Niles answered, “The Bible says that the “New Jerusalem” is surrounded by walls of Jasper, a gemstone so pure, it is as clear as crystal. So that might be the first thing you would notice when you see that city. When you see and hear us, we hope you see and hear Jesus first. Like those walls of Jasper, Jesus is our strong tower. And he is the source of our strength, our hope, our joy, and the source of our music”.
Jasper Walls was created out of a desire to reach a hurting world with God’s message through music and testimony. The band is comprised of Niles White, lead vocalist; Mark Smith, keys and baritone vocalist; Buddy Casto, tenor vocalist; and Dustin Smith, also a tenor vocalist.
